Preparation and In Vitro characterization of chitosan nanoparticles containing amphotericin B as A drug delivery system

dc.description.abstractPolymeric nanoparticles such as chitosan nanoparticles have been widely investigated in recent years as delivery systems for therapeutic molecules like amphotericin B. In this study antifungal drug like amphotericin B loaded chitosan nanoparticles were prepared via ionic gelation of tripolyphosphate (TPP) and chitosan. The optimum encapsulation efficiency was calculated. The average nanoparticle size at optimum conditions was determined by Scanning electron microscope. The nanoparticle size obtained was 60 nm while the zetapotential was positive. The in vitro release of nanoparticles showed an initial burst release of approximately 50% in the first ten hours, followed by a fast release for about 72 hours and then reaches steady state. It is suggested that the chitosan nanoparticles fabricated in our study may provide a suitable alternative to traditional adjuvant systems and found feasible for intravenous delivery of amphotericin B. © 2015 American Scientific Publishers.
