| dc.description.abstract | The inhibiting effect of 1, 2, and 3 vol.-% additions of the heterocyclic nitrogeneous compounds pyridine, piperidine, and 3-picoline on the corrosion of 0040 (Fe40Ni40B20), 2826MB (Fe40Ni38M04Bl8), and 2605-S-2 (Fe78B13Si9) metallic glasses in 0'1M sulphuric acid solution at 25°C has been studied by potentiostatic cathodic and anodic polarisation. The 0040 and 2826MB metallic glasses showed good passivation in the presence of inhibitors, whereas 2605-S-2 did not passivate. All the additions act as mixed inhibitors and obey the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Their effectiveness at 2 vol.-% concentration is in the order: 3-picoline > piperidine > pyridine. Piperidine is more effective than 3-picoline at 3 vol.-% concentration. © 1989 Maney Publishing. | |
