Abstract

The objective of this article is to enhance the voltage gain of the Ultra Sparse Matrix Converter (USMC) with the help of minimum passive components. The voltage gain ratio is one of the key limitations of the matrix converters, the maximum voltage gain for a conventional matrix converter is 0.866. Due to this limited voltage gain matrix converters are limited in Industries. The Voltage gain ratio can be made greater than unity by adding an impedance network to the matrix converter (boost function). This Impedance network consisting passive components, switches, and diodes. Conventional Z source and quasi Z source matrix converters required four passive components and one diode to boost up the voltage level. The proposed converter requires only two passive components to achieve the same boost function, and it achieves high power density by eliminating the second capacitor and second inductor from the impedance network. Compared to the reported converters, the proposed converter requires a similar current stress rating and a slightly higher value of capacitor with reduced quantity. © 2022 IEEE.
