Trie ability of coal to remove Omega Chrome Red ME. (a chrome dye, frequently used in carpet industries) from water has been investigated. It has been found that favourable factors in the removal of above dye by coal are low adsorbate concentration, low temperature and low pH of the medium. The kinetics of dye adsorption was determined by using Lagergien and Weber's equations. The isotherm study was done in the light of Langrauir's model. The therrnodynaric study reveales that the process involved is spontaneous, exothermic.? H°=‐21.37 Koal mole−1) and of randomlsss nature (?S°=01.00 cal nole−1). The pH effect has been explained on the basis of surface oxidation, ionisation and complexation. © 1988 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
