The design of an absorber specifically for mmWave is very complicated due to the involvement of multiple design variables. Therefore, a cost-effective, efficient, lightweight, wideband multilayer mmWave absorber (MWA) is proposed in this article. MWA is designed and optimized using differential evolution optimization (DEO) fused with a transmission line model (TLM). DEO is used to find out the dielectric properties of the required material along with the respective thickness of each layer for the MWA. The study is carried out for the recently introduced fifth generation (5G) mmWave band in India for single, double, and triple-layer absorbers with reduced thickness. The designed triple layer MWA with a thickness of 1.18mm exhibits compelling results, a reflection coefficient (RC) of -52dB at 26.5GHz with 100% bandwidth (BW) for the entire band below the -10dB threshold. The result shows an excellent match with analytical and full-wave simulations. Considering wideband and lightweight characteristics, the designed MWA is suitable for various mmWave applications. © 2023 IEEE.
