Abstract

In the modern era, various portable electronic devices benefit from power converters that provide high efficiency across diverse input and output voltages while maintaining a compact size. However, traditional power converters struggle to achieve a broad operational range with higher efficiency, particularly when both step-up and step-down voltage conversions are needed. The Single-Ended Primary Inductor Converter (SEPIC) addresses these challenges. Conventional buck-boost converters have limitations such as fluctuating input current, reversed output, and elevated voltage stress, which makes them less reliable for a wide range of operations. To overcome these issues, the SEPIC converter is utilized. This paper outlines the ideal method for designing the passive components of a SEPIC, a DC-DC converter that delivers a positive regulated output voltage from a variable input voltage. The SEPIC can function as both a buck and boost converter, and its simple controller ensures low-noise operation. ©2024 IEEE.
