The paper discusses a framework, put forward by the authors, for determining the threshold limit velocity (TLV) of slopes in open-cast mines. The framework integrates advanced mathematical models with empirical data analysis, providing a robust tool for engineers and researchers in the field of geotechnical engineering. A multi-stage methodology is utilized for a specific set of data. A positive outcome from the analysis of slope monitoring data indicates that the slope is experiencing acceleration, and the velocity at this stage can be calculated, which will be the TLV for a particular slope. The aforementioned result has the potential to serve as a valuable input for an early warning system, in turn enhancing the overall efficiency and safety protocols of mining operations. © The Institution of Engineers (India) 2024.
