Abstract
Laccases (benzenediol:oxygen oxidoreductase, EC1.10.3.2) are multicopper enzymes that degrade both phenolic and nonphenolic compounds, with the concomitant four electron reduction of molecular oxygen to water. They are extensively distributed among plants and fungi, however, a few reports have been documented in insects as well. White rot fungi secrete extracellular laccase enzyme, which have multifarious applications. © 2017 Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
