| dc.description.abstract | Wear behavior of friction stir alloyed (FSAed) AZ31-Mg with externally added Al has been investigated. The phase distribution pattern in the case of 6% Al alloying was best with honey-comb like structure with enhanced metallurgical properties. The major wear occurs due to abrasion, adhesion, delamination, plastic deformation and oxidation. The friction coefficient and wear characteristics at 6% Al alloyed sample is comparatively less than 3 and 9% alloying. With an increase in Al volume 3–6% the hardness increases 10%. The wear loss of the alloyed specimen at 6% Al are 16% and 11% less compared to the base metal and processed specimen respectively. In brief, 6% Al alloying sample gives the best tribological, metallurgical and mechanical properties. © 2020 Elsevier Ltd | |
