Abstract

A mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is a self-configured, infrastructure-less network of mobile nodes which are free to move independently. Because of this movement, links will change frequently and will require special routing techniques to handle this. Each node acts as an intermediate router to receive and transmit packets. Power conservation for mobile nodes is a primary challenge to maximize the battery life. M any routing protocols have been proposed to handle communication in MANETs, keeping power conservation in view. In this paper, we have studied the effect of varying transmission range on three routing protocols namely OLSR, DSR and ZRP. These protocols represent the three groups in which MANETs have been classified namely proactive, reactive and hybrid routing protocols. The simulations were done on Qualnet. The performance metrics considered were end to end delay and packet delivery ratio. There was a marked impact on these metrics on variation of transmission range.
