| dc.description.abstract | Mass transfer and pressure drop measurements during flow of Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids through fixed and fluidized beds of uniformly sized cylindrical pellets and spheres have been made. Demineralized water and 1.0% aqueous carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) solution have been used as the fluids. Measurements have covered a particle Reynolds number range from 0.0387 to 6000 and Schmidt numbers from 816 to 71871. It has been shown that with appropriate choice of a viscosity, the results for both Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids can be expressed by correlations based on the capillary tube bundle model. © 1981, American Chemical Society.
