| dc.description.abstract | The effect of the volume fraction on the age hardening behavior of Al alloy aluminosilicate discontinuous fiber-reinforced composites was studied. The hardness of the Al metal matrix composites was higher than that of the matrix alloy in the solution treated condition and increased with increasing volume per cent of fiber. The rate of age hardening of the reinforced matrix alloy was higher than that of the unreinforced matrix and increased with increasing volume percent of fiber in the composite. The hardness of the reinforced matrix in the peak aged condition increased with increasing volume fraction of fiber in the composite. | |
