| dc.description.abstract | We obtain the characteristic equations and modal dispersion curves of optical fibers with different degrees of metal loading on the core-cladding boundary. If p is the fraction of the circular boundary which is metal loaded, we consider four cases, so that p takes the values 1/4, 1/2, 2/3, and 3/4 successively. A comparison of the dispersion curves shows that, as p increases, the number of modes sustained also increases, the other parameters like the operating wavelength (\), the core and cladding refractive indexes (n, and n2), and the core radius (a) being kept constant. ©2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. | |
