In the mathematical modeling of synchronousmachines, the inductances corresponding to the mutual-leakage fluxes linking any two of the three direct axis windings are often neglected. These inductances have been considered in this paper, making the model more accurate, although the unequal per unit mutual inductances make the model rather complicated. This model, however, has been simplified by modifying the rotor base quantities and relations between the parameters of the two models based on equal and unequal mutual systems have been found.Considering the mutual-leakage fluxes linking the damper with other two circuits, an equivalent circuit has been devised and expressions have been derived to estimate the equivalent circuit parameters from the test data. Numerical results show that the mutual-leakage reactances are not usually negligible and may therefore be considered for more accurate analysis. © Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
