Abstract
Removal of phenol and chlorophenols from effluents by fly ash has been investigated. The effects of contact time, concentration of solute, pH and temperature have been studied. Langmuir’s model is used for the equilibrium modelling, and the constants are calculated at 30, 40 and 50°C. Thermodynamic constant AH has also been calculated. The Lagergren equation has been used for dynamic modelling of the process and rate constants for phenol, 4-chlorophenol and 2,4-dichlorophenol are found to be 7.68 x 10–2, 7.24 x 10–2 and 6.45 X 10-2 min-1 at 30°C. It has been observed that low pH as well as higher temperature favours greater removal of 2,4-dichlorophenol than of phenol and 4-chlorophenol. © 1993, Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
