The effect of LB-films on microbial corrosion or copper in sea water has been investigated using classical weight loss and electrochemical techniques. The n-octadecylbenzidine was sythesized and characterized by various spectroscopic techniques LB-films of this compound were prepared onto the copper specimen. The biofilms formation by microorganisms such as bacteria, algae, microfungi and their extracellular polymeric substances on the copper surface was presented by LB-films of n-octadecylbenzidine. The open circuit potential and potentiodynamic polarization curves were observed to shift in noble direction which revealed that corrosion rate decreased with increasing incubation period. © 1999 CECRI.
