Abstract

Mass transfer from a soluble solid sphere placed in flowing non-Newtonian fluids has been investigated. Cast spheres of benzoic acid of diameters 1.269 to 3.05 cm have been used as the test specimens and water and 1.0 and 3.0% aqueous carboxy methyl cellulose (CMC) solutions as the test fluids. It has been shown that the results for both Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids can be correlated together by using an effective viscosity based on the rheological constants of power law fluids established in a tube viscometer. © 1980.
