Abstract
A study has been made of the mechanism of dezincijication of a brass and the effect of azoles as inhibitors for the corrosion of 70/30 brass in sulphuric acid using the weight loss method, solution analysis and electrochemical techniques. The inhibitive efficiency of azolesfor the corrosion of a-brass has beenfound to decrease in the order: 2-mercaptobenzothiazole > benzotriazole > benzimidazole. The critical current density and corrosion current decrease in the same order as the increase in inhibitive efficiency of the compounds. Potentiostatic polarisation studies have shown that both cathode and anode are polarised indicating a mixed type of inhibition. © 1982 Maney Publishing.
