Abstract

A series of microwave remote sensing study of wheat crop at various stages of growth were done at X-band of microwave frequencies. The experimental set up was indigenously prepared to work on the principle of bistatic measurement. Outdoor crop beds were prepared for the remote sensing experiments. Studies were conducted for variation of scattering cross section, reflectivity, emissivity and brightness temperature with different look angles. Only like polarizations (VV and HH) were used at a frequency of 9.50 GHz. Results are presented for various growth stages under natural environment. In the meantime, crop was damaged by thunderstorm and simultaneous heavy rain. Microwave signature of damaged crop was found to be of practical interest in remote sensing. © 1993.
