Abstract

This paper proposes an AC-DC converter with a reconfigurable DC-Link capacitor. In the reconfigurable DC-Link, the electrolytic capacitor is connected and disconnected by the operating relay/contactor. When the DC-Link capacitor is connected, the converter functions as a two-stage system consisting of AC-DC and DC-DC converter. When the DC-Link capacitor is disconnected, the converter operates as a single-stage AC- DC converter. Additionally, within the two-stage system, two control strategies have been discussed, one involving a variable DC link voltage and the other with a fixed DC link voltage. Overall, the proposed converter can operate using three control strategies and can supply power to versatile loads, leveraging the advantages of these strategies across both stages. The operation and control of the proposed converter have been discussed, followed by the experimental results obtained from a scaled-down prototype implemented using TMS320F28335. © 2024 IEEE.
