Propagation of discontinuities along bi-characteristics in magnetohydrodynamics

Abstract

An explicit criterion for the growth and decay of weak discontinuities of arbitrary shape along bi-characteristics is given. The effects of a magnetic field and the upstream flow Mach number on the growth and decay properties of plane and cylindrical waves are discussed. © 1980 American Institute of Physics.
