Determination of dust generation potential number using rock properties
Abstract
Dust is defined as the fine particles (generally below 100 microns) of organic or inorganic substances suspended in the atmosphere. These air borne particles are environmental nuisance and cause health hazards as an ill effect of mining activities. Different rocks have different dust generation potential (DGP). This study correlates physico-mechanical properties of rocks with their dust generation potential. Six physico-mechanical properties namely compressive strength, brittleness, Protodyakonov index, Impact Strength Index and specific gravity for a sample of eight different rock type were studied in this analysis.
