This paper describes the effect of changing the location of the spark plug in spark ignition engines on its performance under varying equivalence ratio. The study has been carried out using a simulation model developed by the authors. The model was tested and verified against experimental results of an engine reported by the manufacturer in the manual and found to be performing efficiently. The parameters studied are : (i) power parameters, eg horse power and mean effective pressure; (ii) fuel parameters, eg specific fuel consumption; and (iii) pollution parameters eg, CO, NO.
