Abstract

Experimental aspects were accessed in a laboratory scale agitated column for simultaneous removal of SO2 and NO using a very cheap complex absorbent. The optimum conditions for simultaneous removal were studied, including process temperature, absorbent concentration and pH in the simulated flue gas system. Removal efficiencies of 98% for SO2 and 87% for NO were obtained, respectively under optimal experimental conditions. The characterization of spent absorbent was carried out using chemical analysis methods from which the simultaneous removal mechanism of SO2 and NO into this absorbent was tried to be explained. The results of present study were compared with various absorbents available from literature. The work may be useful for the control of SO2 and NO from fossil fuel power plant stack gases. © Research India Publications.
