Abstract

This paper describes the potential of magnetic hysteresis loop (HL) technique to monitor the thermally damaged regions of hardened AISI H13 die steel. To overcomes this thermal damage issue, minimum quantity lubrication grinding with bio-lubricants like castor oil, biodegradable oil, and Al2O3 nanofluid was adopted. HL parameters i.e., average permeability and coercivity linearly correlated with average grain size, microhardness, and full width at half maximum (FWHM) and its correlational coefficient of ∼0.8959, ∼0.9661, ∼0.9278, ∼0.9652, ∼0.9485, and ∼0.9870, respectively. The alteration in the steepness of the HL envelope well agrees with the dominant role of microhardness and FWHM. It is concluded that an inspection of ground die steel during in-line production, HL should be calibrated concerning surface properties. © 2024 Elsevier Ltd
