Abstract
A reconfigurable multi-output on-board power converter for electric vehicles (EVs) with reduced switch count is proposed in this paper. The reconfiguration takes place between charging and motoring modes by utilizing the relays. During charging mode, the converter charges a battery from the standard household supply, provides two additional buck, and boosts DC outputs. A unified control loop maintains a unity power factor (UPF) at the source side and provides CC-CV charging at the battery terminal. The same converter is reconfigured in motoring mode to run the BLDC motor and supply two DC loads, similar to the charging mode. The brushless DC motor is operated with the help of a voltage source inverter (VSI) and a Hall-effect position sensor which triggers the switching by High-PWM Low-ON switching (HPLS) scheme. The proposed concept is validated in simulation and a laboratory prototype of 500 watts is developed and tested in both charging and motoring mode. © 2023 IEEE.
