Abstract

The present review article aims at summarizing some recent advances in methods of analysis of stresses and angle of twist, of different elastic and elastic-plastic materials, having different cross sections, under torsional loading. Research efforts on analysis of stresses, elastic plastic boundary and springback under torsional loading have evolved over the past two decades which has led to the establishment of an extensive literature. Numerical methods such as Finite Difference Method and Finite Element Method have been in use for long time to determine stresses and predict springback, in torsional loading. Meshfree or meshlessmethods, have been employed recently, as they overcome the error of mesh connectivity under large deformations. A number of meshfree methods such as radial basis functions, method of particular solutions, method of fundamental solutions and more have been employed to solve the torsion problem. The paper presents a brief review of methods used for analysis under torsional loading. © 2017 Elsevier Ltd.
