Abstract
Terahertz (THz) spectrum band has recently attracted significant interest due to the development of radio electronics and the availability of hundreds of gigahertz of the spectrum. Therefore, it is regarded as one of the primary enablers for the forthcoming sixth generation (6G) wireless systems, which aim to provide communication services at a rate of one terabit per second. Though promising, the propagation loss caused by the high carrier frequency, obstructions, and atmospheric attenuation in this frequency band must be compensated. In this paper, we investigate the symbol error rate (SER) performance of intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) assisted multiple input multiple output (MIMO) THz communication system. We also show the impact of propagation path loss and molecular absorption coefficients. Comparison with MIMO system is also highlighted. The simulation results show that the performance of the IRS-assisted MIMO system for THz channel model is better than MIMO system and with increase in number of IRS reflecting elements the performance improves. © 2022 IEEE.
