Abstract

This paper extensively examines the control aspects of fuel cell fed switched reluctance motor (SRM) used in fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEV). Integrating SRM in FCEVs presents several promising benefits, including improved efficiency, reduced weight, and heightened reliability. A boost converter is devised to merge the fuel cell output with SRM's asymmetric converter, after which the entire system underwent analysis to validate its effectiveness for FCEV. Utilizing advanced simulation techniques, the dynamic behavior of the SRM-FCEV system across various operating conditions is scrutinized, and efficiency, torque output, and transient response are assessed. Moreover, tailored control strategies are developed to leverage the unique characteristics of SRMs with a focus on achieving superior speed regulation, torque control, and energy management. The SRM is effectively controlled by employing the current hysteresis control technique to meet the variable speed requirement of the vehicle load. © 2024 IEEE.
