Abstract

The diffusion coefficients of NaCl, CsCl, CaCl2 and SrCl2 were studied at various concentrations in agar gel media at 25 °C by zone diffusion technique. The results have been compared with the values obtained by other methods in aqueous solution. The experimental values of diffusion coefficients for CsCl and SrCl2 agree with the values obtained by other methods and support the Onsager Fuoss theory. However, a divergence between the theoretical and experimental values of diffusion coefficients has been observed in case of NaCl and CaCl2. An attempt has been made to explain the above facts in the light of gel inter-action on the diffusing species. © 1972, Akademische Verlagsgesellschaft. All rights reserved.
