Abstract

The pyrophosphate phosphors are very interesting materials because they display important properties used in various applications, such as light emitting diodes, supercapacitors, catalytic materials, electrode materials for batteries, ionic solid electrolyte batteries, nonlinear-optical and dielectric materials, etc. Physical and chemical properties of a material strongly depend on synthesis route, particle size and crystallinity. Different synthesis techniques provide different platforms for the synthesis of the various forms of the materials distinctly, such as single crystalline, polycrystalline, thin films, etc. This implies that synthesis methods are very interesting and important parameters for deciding the properties of a material. The present chapter briefly describes the basic properties and structures of the pyrophosphate phosphor materials. In this chapter, we have discussed the novelty of the pyrophosphate phosphor materials [(Ax)4+(P2O7)4-], which can accommodate different cations at A-site. We have also discussed various routes such as solid, liquid and gas phase synthesis methods for the production of pyrophosphate phosphor materials mostly in the oxide powder form. We have briefly discussed the effect of synthesis techniques on the morphology and photoluminescence intensity of the pyrophosphate phosphor materials. © 2020 Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
