On the free energy change accompanying crystallisation of undercooled melts
Abstract
A novel expression has been developed for the Gibbs free energy change (ΔG) accompanying crystallisation of an undercooled melt. It is based on the hole theory of liquids and is capable of faithfully reproducing the temperature dependence of ΔG in case of pure metals, glass forming alloys and organic liquids. Comparison with other available expressions for ΔG shows that the present approach is by far the best even at large degrees of undercooling. © 1984.
