Abstract

Window glasses in prolonged contact with water develop relatively thick layer crusts due to attack of corrosive environment. In the present study the corrosion behaviour of polished window glasses in plain water and- in the presence of sulphate and fluoride as well as chloride aggressive ions in water have been examined at atmospheric temperature ranging from 25°to 30°C. A study regarding the morphological changes in upper layer of window glasses bas been carried out with the help of optical microscopy. From these studies, it is evident that the attack on window glasses is much more in the presence of sulphate and fluoride aggressive ions as compared to that of chloride ions. Transmittance of corroded window glasses bas also been recorded. © Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
