| dc.description.abstract | The effects of minor additions (3 and 5 wt %) of TiO2and Fe203 on the sintering of alumina were studied at various temperatures (13500-1600°C) and times (up to 500 minutes). More than 95% of theoretical density was achieved by alumina compacts containing 5% TiO2 at 16000C. Densification in general was directly dependent, among others, on the impurity content. From an analysis of the shrinkage data and a consideration of relevant phase diagrams, it was concluded that a solid-solid mechanism of sintering was operative in the present experiments. © 1977, Taylor & Francis Group, LLC. | |
