In this paper, a proxy sliding mode control (PSMC) is designed for a DC–DC buck converter. The mathematical form of the controller combines the proportional–integral–derivative controller and a sliding mode controller in an algebraic way. The objective of the control is to regulate the output voltage of the DC–DC buck converter in the presence of line voltage and load uncertainty. Simulation and experimental results of the DC–DC buck converter are carried out to demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed controller. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd 2020.
