Abstract

Drug absorption and disposition in the body are the initial processes that determine the fate of the drug. Drug absorption and disposition (distribution, metabolism, and excretion) are the four phases of the drug cycle in the body that must be thoroughly studied. Absorption is the process by which a drug enters the body. Absorption can be systemic or local in terms of physiological processes. While disposition refers to the fate of a drug once it enters the body or enters systemic circulation, it includes both distribution and elimination processes. To understand a drug’s fate, a variety of factors influencing its absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion must be investigated. This chapter discusses the various factors that may influence drug absorption and disposition. © 2024 Elsevier Inc.
