Effect of tool pin eccentricity on microstructural and mechanical properties of friction stir processed copper
Abstract
In this study, microstructural features and mechanical properties developed in the stir zone (SZ) of copper was analysed while employing different pin eccentricities (0, 0.3 and 0.6 mm) during friction stir processing. Friction stir processing led to substantial grain refinement which further enhanced with pin eccentricity. Specimen processed with 0.3 mm of pin eccentricity displayed finer grain and hence highest hardness and tensile properties, associated to increased grain boundary strengthening. © 2021 Elsevier Ltd
