Design Studies of Two-Stage Depressed Collector for Millimeter Wave Gyro-TWT Using MAGIC
Abstract
To enhance the total efficiency of a TE01 mode gyrotron travelling wave tube amplifier, a depressed collector with 2-stages has been designed and simulated. For a specific parameter of the unused electrons, the geometry of electrodes and potential on electrodes has been optimized to enhance the total efficiency of the gyrotron amplifier. The electrostatic analysis of depressed collector to trace the spent electrons trajectories is done by using FTDT based Particle-In-Cell simulation tool MAGIC 3D. The simulation result of the present 2-stage depressed collector predicted 68.8% energy recovery from spent electrons energy and the total efficiency of device has been improved to ~ 50 %. © 2020 IEEE.
