SIW cavity-backed U-shaped slot antenna for 5G applications

| dc.description.abstract | A novel design technique to enhance the bandwidth of substrate integrated waveguide cavity-backed U-shaped slot antenna has been proposed in this paper. The proposed antenna is designed for 5G applications to cover 28 GHz (27.5-28.35 GHz) band. Instead of using a conventional narrow rectangular slot, a U-shaped slot is used for an inductive loading of the slot to get broader bandwidth performance. The results show that the bandwidth of 3.9 GHz (13.9%), a gain of 7.15 dBi over the bandwidth, and cross-polarization level less than-28 dB have been achieved. The overall volume occupied by the proposed design including feedline is 20 mm x 14 mm x 0.508 mm. © 2019 IEEE. | |
