In this paper, model predictive control (MPC) technique is used for selective harmonic elimination and voltage of capacitor balancing in hybrid cascaded multilevel inverter without using additional PWM control circuits. In MPC, a cost function is used which includes the error of the reference values and the predicted future values. Normalization is applied and weighting factors are used in the cost function of MPC to give better steady state and dynamic performance. The proposed idea is validated through simulation and experimentation. © 2019 IEEE.
