| dc.description.abstract | In this paper, we reexamine the well-known Bragg fibers from a very simple, analytical point of view. It is found that with a very small number of cladding regions one can obtain modal characteristics of Bragg fibers which are similar to those of the step-index standard fiber under the weak-guidance condition. The Bragg fibers are therefore close competitors of the standard weakly-guiding step-index fiber with respect to the few mode-guidance properties, apart from low absorption. We show this for some special cases by obtaining the dispersion curves. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. | |
