Sustainable water resources

Abstract

Human interventions and urbanization have posed great threat on sustainability of freshwater resource. In this chapter, an attempt has been made to review the issues, challenges, and existing water resource management (WRM) for urban sector. Existing WRM could not address the holistic solution for the problem. As a single measure index for sustainability, Water for Development Planning Index was developed. Currently, modern computation techniques such as Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis, Agent-Based Modeling, and Machine Learning based on the probabilistic approach with defined risk of failure are paving its path to address the sustainability of WRM. © 2021 Elsevier Inc.
