| dc.description.abstract | The fabrication of a bandpass filter in the ultraviolet region of the electromagnetic spectrum with the use of photonic band-gap (PBG) materials is presented on the basis of the Kronig-Penny model in the band theory of solids. The periodic structure of different dielectrics and semiconductor materials in rectangular symmetry is considered. Illustrative diagrams are presented in order of allowed and forbidden bands of wavelengths. The filter can also act as an efficient ultraviolet monochromator by the appropriate selection of the controlling parameters. The anomalous dispersion behavior of glass and zinc sulphide (ZnS) is discussed. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Microwave Opt. Technol. Lett. | |
