Analysis of an eddy current brake

dc.description.abstractA conducting sheet rotor eddy current brake has been investigated. A numero-analytical model of eddy current brake (ECB) has been developed using Fourier transform analysis applicable to the electrical machines. The skin and speed effects in the conducting rotor have been considered. The ECB has also been analyzed using standard FEM code ANSYS multi-physics 10.0. The validation of Fourier transform model and FEM results have been done using experimental results. An experimental ECB has been developed using an aluminum disk and double-sided eddy current primary. The purpose of this paper is to analyze eddy current brake with sheet rotor from the view point of its suitability for different applications.
