| dc.description.abstract | This chapter mentions the various non-renewable and renewable energy sources and gives the purpose of using it. The fossil fuel used by various metallurgical plants in various forms (solid, liquid and gas) are non-renewable in nature. The steel and aluminium plants together use ~6 % world energy share while other plants like copper, zinc and lead consume relatively less quantity. This chapter describes the form of energy, quantity of energy, energy use distribution pattern before analyzing factors to minimize its consumption in steel and aluminium plants. It gives the scope of energy saving along with the development of renewable energy source like hydrogen and biomass for future metallurgical applications. © 2014 Elsevier Ltd.
