Using Westergaard function in conventional and also in modified form the rigid body rotation at the crack tip and near the crack edges of mode II cracks are obtained. An attempt is made to explain the deformed configuration of a mode II crack. The rotation at the end of the plastic shear strip ahead of the crack tip is shown to be independent of the stress intensity factor. The rotation field in the vicinity of a crack tip under combined mode I and mode II conditions is obtained. © 1989.
