Abstract
A design of rectangular dielectric resonator antenna (RDRA) involving dielectrics with low loss (tan δ < 0.01) and small loss (tan δ ~ 0.2) is developed. The field patterns are studied by simulation using Ansys HFSS software. The design comprises an array of three rectangular resonators. The outer resonators, made of low loss dielectric, are microstrip aperture coupled to the microwave source. The resonator in the middle, made of small loss dielectric, remains parasitic and is not coupled to the source. It is found that, as compared to the low loss RDRA array antenna, this design yields similar bandwidth with slightly reduced gain. The results indicate that perovskites such as Ba1-xSrxTiO3 (0.20 < x < 0.35) and BaTi1-xSnxO3 (0.05 < x <0.15) which have small loss in the range of 0.09 to 0.2 may also be utilized in the development of RDRA with suitable designs for applications in X-Band (8-12 GHz) of microwave. © 2021 IEEE
