As the importance of energy conservation and environmental protection grows, numerous research initiatives are going on for clean and efficient use of energy. The energy storage system (ESSs) should be capable of bidirectional power flow. In this paper, a bidirectional LLC resonant DC–DC converter is presented for energy storage application. Bidirectional LLC resonant converter with switching frequency regulator and battery charging through constant-current–constant-voltage (CC–CV) charging and discharging mode has been simulated on MATLAB/SIMULINK. Resonant converter switching loss can be reduced by providing zero voltage or current during switching. The LLC resonant converter has various advantages like low EMI and low harmonic pollution, zero-voltage switching (ZVS) turn-on, zero-current switching (ZCS) turn-off, low voltage stress, electrical isolation from power grid, magnetic integration, etc. among various topologies of resonant converters. Therefore, this paper proposes to work on bidirectional LLC resonant converter for EV charging application. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.
