Abstract

The presented paper describes a typical three phase three level T-type neutral point clamped (3L-TNPC) power dense inverter that uses Wide Band Gap (WBG) devices as power switches for next generation carbon neutral energy application. The total power losses generated in the proposed inverter feeding a 22 KVA industrial grid power are investigated, as are the generated junction temperatures for the various operating loads. The proposed inverter losses for various modulation techniques such as Third Harmonic Injection PWM (THIPWM), Third Harmonic Zero Sequence PWM (THZSPWM), and discontinuous PWM pattern are evaluated (DPWM1). In the proposed inverter, the Wolfspeed Silicon Carbide (SiC) MOSFET with Model Number C3M0065100K is used for loss analysis.. Further the Thermal Model files with switching losses and conduction losses are generated in the PLECS software. A separate thermal description file are made for the MOSFET and the Body Diode in the PLECS software. The proposed 3L-TNPC inverter with SVPWM Modulation technique shows less losses when grid is running at power factor from 0.75 to 0.85 which is the practical running value of the grid in industrial loads. © 2023 IEEE.
