| dc.description.abstract | An analysis of an eddy-current coupling uith a composite rotor is prssented. The composite rotor is constructed with a number of layers of materials with different permeabilities and conductivities. Case studies for two-, three-, and four-layer rotors have clearly established their superiority over the conventional couplings, from the point of torque transmission, losses and applications to speed control. It is further shown that by suitable choice of materials and thicknesses of layers, these couplings can be designed to have a wide range of characteristics. Experimental data on two-and three-layer couplings are also given and there is a good agreement between the experimental and analytical results over the working range of slip-speeds as also the peak torques transmitted. © 1978 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC. | |
